Professor Geoff Eley: University of Michigan, Ann Arbor
Professor Eley is one of the leading historians of nineteenth- and twentieth-century Germany and Europe. His Forging Democracy is a highly stimulating history of democracy and political activism in Europe since the 1880s. Together with David Blackbourn, he wrote the landmark book Peculiarities of German History in which the authors fundamentally questioned the notion of a German special path towards modernity.
